CW ARC Requests

Spring is a common time for residents to improve their homes by adding new patios, porches, fences, etc.  We have project request forms available on the website at the following link:  http://www.cameronwood.com/info.php?f=fol

Please make sure that you are submitting all project requests that require approval by the Architectural Review Committee.  It is better to get approval than have to deal with making changes if the project is not approved.  Thank you!

Thank you note from TreesCharlotte...

Dear Cameron Wood community,

A special thanks to each of you for your participation in Saturday’s TreesCharlotte NeighborWoods event.  You are helping to expand and diversify Charlotte’s urban forest and we appreciate your involvement.
Thank you!

Also, a special thanks to those who volunteered for the event, both helping to plan and run the event.  You made possible the distribution of more than 165 trees to neighborhood residents and common areas – thank you!
If you have not yet planted your tree(s) please plant them immediately.  Attached (Check the CW Blog for 'Tree Planting and Care') are proper planting and tree care instructions for your reference or check out this video

The keys to proper planting are:
  • Proper hole depth – the root flare, where the trunk begins to flare out to form the root structure, should be an inch or so above the natural soil line.
  • Proper hole width – the hole should be twice as wide as the root ball.  Tamp the dirt in around the tree firmly to prevent the tree from slumping.
  • Eliminate circling roots – make sure the roots are not circling.  Cut any circling roots.
  • Mulch and protect – keep a ring of mulch around the tree and protect the tree from any contact with mowers or weed eaters.
  • Water – water your tree immediately after planting and every week with 5 gallons.  Water twice a week during dry summer and fall weather.  If you don’t water your tree it will probably die.
Please take good care of your trees – they will love you for years to come.  Click here for additional tips on trees care.

Check out photos of the event on our Flickr account.  Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter to keep up with all our events.  We would love for you to share you pictures with us by tagging them #treesclt.

At TreesCharlotte, we are committed to continuous quality improvement – please let me know of any suggestions you have for TreesCharlotte and how your experience could have been improved.

And lastly, you can track our progress and future events on our web site – all events are listed on our calendar.
Enjoy!

Be Courteous, Be a mindful neighbor...

As the weather continues to improve and more people enjoy the outdoors I wanted to remind residents of a few important items.

The first idea is simple:  clean up after your pets!  It's unfortunate that we have to continue to emphasize this requirement, which is both a city ordinance and a rule of common decency.

Second, it is essential that residents respect the right to quiet enjoyment of their neighbors.  Please be mindful of dogs being left out all day to bark.  Below are links to our city and county noise ordinances, and to the covenants and by-laws available to you for reference on the CW website.
Last, please mind the boundaries between the HOA owned property and private property.  This is particularly important around the pond and ball field.  Residents should not be walking on, or cutting through, private property.

As our Annual Meeting approaches, one of the most important items on the agenda is the election of the Board of Directors. All of the details of this process are outlined in our Bylaws. But to save you the trouble of searching that very long document, here are some of the important facts you need to know:

  • The Board of Directors should consist of five Directors. The board can choose to increase that number to up to nine Directors by a majority vote (Article IV, Section 2)
  • All Directors must be members of the Association, and they must not be in default of payment of assessments or violation fines. They also cannot currently have a continuing violation of the Declarations, Bylaws, or rules and regulations of the Association (Article IV, Section 2)
  • Nominations can be made to the Board of Directors 30 days prior to each annual meeting. Nominations can also be made from the floor at the annual meeting (Article IV, Section 3)

Directors can be elected in a few different ways:
  • Secret written ballot at the annual meeting (Article IV, Section 4)
  • A majority vote at another board meeting where quorum is present (Article III, Section 7)
  • A written vote without a meeting. Written votes include fax and email (Article III, Section 10)

You are able to appoint another resident to vote on your behalf. This is called voting by proxy. You received a proxy vote form in your meeting notice that was mailed to you. If you need another copy, contact Henderson Properties at 704-535-1122. (Article III, Section 9)

A quorum is required to vote at the meeting. Quorum is 10% of eligible residents, which is approximately 80 households. In the event that we do not have quorum, the meeting can be adjourned and then immediately reconvened. At that point, the new quorum requirement is one-half of the previous requirement. This provision can be repeated until quorum is present (Article III, Section 6)

You can access our HOA Bylaws here. Should you have any questions regarding the election process or any other association related item, please do not hesitate to contact our management company or one of the current Board members.

Oktoberfest 2016 - another success!

It was another great turn out for our annual CW Oktoberfest!  Though we don’t have official attendance numbers, I would have to say that this year topped them all.  Weather, music, and food made this a great event for everyone.  We ate our way through 700 brats and hot dogs, 110lbs of potato salad and cole slaw, and more than 1200 cookies.

Many thanks are due to many people….

  • A special thank you to my wife, Gail, for enduring another year of planning, prepping, serving and cleaning without complaint;
  • All of the adult and youth volunteers that helped bring the event together;
  • Katherine Neal and her group for coordinating the food drive.  Cameron Wood continues to show how generous and caring we are by collecting over 500lbs of non-perishable food for Loaves and Fishes;
  • CW HOA for continuing to fund and support what has become an annual and much anticipated CW tradition;
  • Our corporate partners:  Pinnacle Amusements, SouthEnd Home Improvement, and Triple C Brewing Co. for providing different elements to make our CW Oktoberfest a great event.

A special thank you this year to the band Common Ground for providing a fantastic collection of songs and overall awesome music experience!

Auf Wiedersehen, David Lewyn

A VERY BIG THANK YOU TO DAVID LEWYN for heading this event up every year!

"Once again our community was lucky to have David Lewyn dedicate himself to organizing a wonderful Oktoberfest.  This is the most popular event that we host each year and we are incredibly lucky to have David put this show on.  Not only does he manage the vendors, order the beer, pickup all the food, cook all the food, organize volunteers, and make sure everyone is having a great time, but he also helps organize donations for Loaves and Fishes.  David has almost single-handedly put on this event for years and we are extremely grateful for him."  -Chris, CWHOA President

CW Safety

Happy Halloween!  Please be safe Monday evening, October 31, as CW children, families and friends enjoy trick-or-treating through the neighborhood!  Talk with your children about safety before heading out!

S  Swords, knives & similar costume accessories should be short,
     soft & flexible.
A  Avoid trick-or-treating alone. Walk in groups or with a trusted adult.
Fasten reflective tape to costumes and bags to help drivers see you.
E  Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating
them. Limit the amount of treats you eat.

H  Hold a flashlight while trick-or-treating to help you see and others see
you. Always WALK and don't run from house to house.
A  Always test make-up in a small area first. Remove it before bedtime to
prevent possible skin and eye irritation.
L  Look both ways before crossing the street. Use established crosswalks
     wherever possible.
L  Lower your risk for serious eye injury by not wearing decorative contact
     lenses.
O  Only walk on sidewalks whenever possible, or on the far edge of the road
      facing traffic to stay safe.
W Wear well-fitting masks, costumes, and shoes to avoid blocked vision,
       trips, and falls.
E  Eat only factory-wrapped treats. Avoid eating homemade treats made by
      strangers.
E  Enter homes only if you're with a trusted adult. Only visit well-lit houses.
Don't stop at dark houses. Never accept rides from strangers.
N  Never walk near lit candles or luminaries. Be sure to wear flame-resistant
      costumes.

Neighborhood Safety

Over the past several months the South Division has experienced a great deal of vehicle break ins and stolen vehicles. During this period OUR communities continue to be MAJOR targets because of people’s inability as community members to take responsibility for their crime prevention roles.

It is up to you to make sure that these criminals DO NOT keep coming into OUR communities! The police have been overwhelmed with vehicle break ins and almost ALL of them are because people are NOT locking their vehicles and removing their valuables.

Vehicles are also being STOLEN because people are leaving their keys in them! LOCK YOUR VEHICLES, REMOVE YOUR KEYS AND REMOVE YOUR VALUABLES!

Safety

Safety is a two way street in Cameron Wood!  We ask that you please drive the speed limit (remind your teenagers too), and be aware of pedestrians, but also as a pedestrian please observe safety protocol as well.

This time of year CW is filled with walkers, runners, bikers, kids, strollers and pets.  Since there are no sidewalks, except for Birnen and Arbor Point Drive, pedestrians share the road way.  There are published guidelines for pedestrian safety.  A few will be mentioned herein:

  • The roadways are not wide thoroughfares. Pedestrians need to walk on the left side of the road FACING the oncoming traffic.  This allows eye – to – eye contact.
  • If walking in a group, a single line needs to be made when traffic comes your way.
  • Earphones for listening to music or radio are prevalent – this is a safety hazard if in both ears, as hearing what is going on around you is hindered.  Pedestrians need to be aware of their surroundings at all times so if you must wear earphones, then wear in one ear only.
  • Cell phones are a pedestrian’s worst friend.  While talking, one is not paying attention to where one is walking nor to any danger around them such as approaching cars, loose dogs, a thief, etc.
  • Walking and talking in a group can be dangerous as well.  The same safety guidelines apply.  Pay attention to where you are going and to your surroundings.

Remember we all want to return home in the same condition or better than when we left home.  Be safe and respect the traffic – they will do you much more harm than good should you be hit by a vehicle!
