June 14, 2011- McClintock HVAC-I have to strongly disagree with Katherine's post. McClintock has been terrific to work with and I strongly recommend them to our friends. They diagnosed and corrected an installation error made by another company. They come out on time and do great work. I have a service contract with them as well. Mr Gravely (CW neighbor) will usually stop by to check on his crew. I don't believe anyone would find a more reputable and honest HVAC company in Charlotte + they sell Trane. March 11, 2011-Bath & Kitchen is large plumbing showroom with a wide variety of products, including kitchen and bath sinks and faucets. And most of the faucets work! They are located in the Promanade Shopping Center next to Pier 1: 5335 Ballantyne Commons Pkwy, which is near the corner of Providence and Ballantyne Commons Pkwy. It's the shopping center where Home Depot is located. I was really impressed with their sinks because of the sink inserts and working faucets. I put in a raised sink in my powder room and if I had known that the water would splash all over outside of the vessel, I would never had selected the sink. I've been to plenty of fixture stores in Charlotte and this is the best one I have visited. I highly recommmend you go to this place before you choose your fixtures for a kitchen or bath renovation. Bathroom Remodel
Westwood Builders, 704-622-3195. Recommended by Jef Solomon,3112 Fieldpointe Lane, 560-0673. I was most fortunate to obtain Mr. Mike Lee to perform a bathroom remodel. I have nothing but the highest praise for the work done by Mike and his team. This was a difficult job for several reasons. For one thing, I insisted on the installation of a large pre-fab shower unit. This required bringing the shower unit through a large exterior window in my bathroom. Mike's team did this with no problem. Also, like most Charlotte houses, my house is "out of square and not plumb.". Mike and his team handled this with no complaints or excuses. The quality of their work was nothing less than superb, and the cost was extremely reasonable. Mike kept to his word on the estimate and, in fact, credited me for some existing components that could be re-used. Mike is a perfectionist and a true professional. My bathroom vanity, which I did not replace, was never properly installed when my house was built. Mike and his team re-set the vanity at no cost to me. They did this, I believe, because it just wasn't right, and they wanted my bathroom to be correct. Mike was very respectful of my property. He cleaned up after each day's work, and it was a treat for me to come home from my job and see the progress he had made. Mike was on-site during the entire process, and did much of the work himself. He was ALWAYS on time, and kept his word at every turn. If I needed a new home, I would be privileged to have Mike build it for me. I know this review sounds almost like an advertisement, but I was truly thrilled with the work that was done, and consider myself fortunate to have found Mike. Unfortunately, I have had some pretty poor results with contractors in the past. I highly recommend Mike without reservation.

Jim Rowland Electric Co. - I found Rowland Electrical on Angie's list. Jim, the owner, came to my house and gave me an estimate within 2 hours of my first call. He and a worker of his completed the work the following day. They replaced a faulty GCIF for my two full upstair bathrooms. The GCIF had previously been located in the garage. A location that was totally inconvienent. The new GCIF is now in the master bathroom, where it belongs, and the former GCIF lication is now a double outlet. Jim's price was very fair and I certainly would hire him again. His office is only three miles from Cameron Wood. Recommended by LeAnn Swieczkowski.
Ace Electric: I do not recommend this company. He completed the work we required which was : 1) replace ballast in the pantry and 2) install new ceiling fan in living room, which we purchased. We calculated time spent on the job to be four hours and we were charged for seven and 3/4 hours. We made the assumption that as a licensed electrician he would possess the tools of his trade and trade discounts for material. He did not have a ladder sufficient to do the ceiling installation so he rented one and charged us $33.75. He bought material in Lowes and added a 50% profit for himself on top of that. He charged a total of $592.48 which it should have been $324.82.We subsequently checked with Lowes what they would have charged us for the installation by a licensed electrical contractor and we were told that the total amount would have been $140.00. Rich Vought is an excellent handyman/contractor who replaced the siding on my home with Hardie Plank, painted, installed new replacement windows, replaced all the rotted wood trim around the windows, doors and garage. He also replaced the kitchen fluorescent "box" light with recessed lighting, has switched out ceiling fans and light fixtures and can do other miscelleneous electrical work as well as kitchen and bath updating. The rec room project involved removing a faux archway, installing hardwood floors (throughout rec room, foyer, and ½ bath), installing new light fixtures, and painting walls/ceiling. The workout room involved heat/air installation, rubber flooring, painting walls/ceiling (including installation of floor-ceiling mirrors on one entire wall). May 29, 2011-Altruenergy Building Performance, owner is Chris Folse. Chris has been doing work on our house since December of 2010. This includes several jobs, each one of which he provided a written estimate...and none of which cost more than the estimate. Chris is a BPI - Certified Building Analyst, a NEHA - Healthy Homes Specialist and is insured and licensed contractor. His work is of a very high standard and he takes his time to explain what he is doing and why - that is something very valuable to us as homeowners. A month after he did the energy retrofit of our attic around our bonus room there was a notable drop in our heating costs...a direct result of Chris's work. He also showed us how to claim a tax credit for the materials used in this job. Additionally, he did some work on our deck building an extra set of steps and cleaned it. After the cleaning it looked new. We also had Chris fix a hole in our garage ceiling. We balked at the initial estimate of near $1,000. He immediately looked for ways to do it more economically and recalculated the job down to almost half that. We highly recommend Chris, who also has experience as an appraiser of houses, so when he does work for you on your house, he not only explains the how and the what about the job, but also tells you why it is good for energy efficiency of the home as well as for the value of the home in the real estate market. Chris is in the process of doing an energy retro-fit of the underside of our house, including the insulation of the piping in our crawl space as well as some insulation around our re-modeled master bathroom which was omitted by another contractor. July 25, 2010 Green Improvements, LLC-I used Green Improvements to clean my beadboard deck ceiling (which is 20 feet up) and apply two coats of poly. Not only did Rick (the owner) do a good job, but he did more than I requested by taking down the two ceiling fans, the six recessed ights and the two speakers in order to get the poly under the housing of those units. March 11, 2011-Win Bath & Kitchen is large plumbing showroom with a wide variety of products, including kitchen and bath sinks and faucets. And most of the faucets work! They are located in the Promanade Shopping Center next to Pier 1: 5335 Ballantyne Commons Pkwy, which is near the corner of Providence and Ballantyne Commons Pkwy. It's the shopping center where Home Depot is located. I was really impressed with their sinks because of the sink inserts and working faucets. I put in a raised sink in my powder room and if I had known that the water would splash all over outside of the vessel, I would never had selected the sink. I've been to plenty of fixture stores in Charlotte and this is the best one I have visited. I highly recommmend you go to this place before you choose your fixtures for a kitchen or bath renovation. WARNING-Davey Tree Expert Company: September 3, 2010. I recommend NOT using this company because of their high fees. I have used Davey Tree for tree deep root tree fertilzing, tree pruning and lawn weed & feed since Sept. 2006 and had no problems until my last statement. Can you believe they charged me $310 dollars for driving from their shop to my house and back to their shop. The distance is 46 miles round trip. The salesperson didn't tell me about this charge but instead wrote it on the estimate as $85 per man hour shop to shop. I didn't realize what "shop to shop" meant. I do now! Just think if they had sent three or four men instead of two. My charge could have been $510 or $680 just for driving 46 miles. What company charges such rates? No other that I know. Aug 30, 2010- Peaceful Ponds: I recommend Peaceful Ponds for landscaping, stone work and drainage design and installation. While Brian and his team specialize in water-structures, they are also able to tackle any size job in many areas of improving yards. Rotelli's May 5, 2011: If you have never been to Rotelli's you are missing a local restaurant just around the corner from Cameron Wood. It is located on the northwest corner of Carmel and Pineville-Matthews Road. You don't have to drive down to Ballentyne to get Toni's Pizza cause Rotelli's is just as good. They also have pasta, salads and sandwiches. They recently put in a bar, so if you are alone you can sit at the bar and watch the TV while you eat. They have a large cheese pizza special every Tuesday night for $6.99. Trivia nights are every Wednesday night from 8 -10 p.m. They open at 11:30 a.m. daily and close at 9 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday and close at 10 p.m. on Friday and Sat. Kola Construction - I had Kola Construction replace my roof. It didn't cost me anything for Kola or my insurance company to look at my roof. My insurance said there was damage and they would replace the roof. I paid only the $250.00 deductable plus another 630.00 for an upgrade I wanted. WARNING Kola Construction - We just had KOLA construction look at our roof. I gave them a F rating on Angies List. It cost me $500 for them to look at my roof with my insurance adjuster. They claim they will only charge what the insurance company will pay plus the deductable. They said they do Hurricane nailing, 30 yr shingles etc. etc. My normal roofing guy does the same install for half the price. My advise...Call your insurance company and DO NOT let KOLA come out to help them inspect. If you sign the contract you have to use them and have the check made out to you and KOLA. November 2009-High Top Roofing - I highly recommend this company. I found them through Angie's List. They are highly rated there and also had a $200 off coupon. They warranty their workmanship for 5 years. They used 30 lb. felt instead of the 15 lb. that most roofers use. They also installed an attic fan (which they purchased and didn't add to the bill) and two sky lights (which I purchased), for no addtional labor charges. They replaced all the plumbing vent collars and added ridge vents to the house ridges. The roofing material itself is Ownes Corning "Oakridge" brand 30 year architecturkal shingles. Finally, their clean-up was very through. I got more than my money's worth and couldn't be happier since I saved thousands in the process. Their phone number is 704-989-3189. WARNING-H & S Roofing Company - I would not recommend this roofer to anyone in Cameron Wood. They are on the high side of other roofing companys. In fact, the quote I received was $2,000 more than the company I did hire even though H&S was going to use cheaper materials (15 weight tar paper as opposed to 30 weight). And it took three weeks to get an estimate once they examined the property. Recommendation by LeAnn Swieczkowski.
Freeman Exteriors: We had wind damage from several storms recently. I had Freeman's Exterior come out to confirm the damage. Freeman even met the insurance adjuster. The Insurance Co. paid the claim. I have used Freeman's since the mid 1980's. They are neat, draping the front of the house and yard. I found a few nails after the fact when I thought I would see many more nails. Windows & Doors Replacement
October 28, 2010- New Image, POC: John DeLand , 704-651-4836. New Image removed 16 energy inefficient, wood trimmed, exterior house windows and replaced them with Excalibur, Alside brand, double-hung windows with low e with Argon Gas, contoured grids (top and bottom), full screens and exterior wrapped brick mold using PVC material making the windows practically maintenence-free. I began my search for a company to install my new windows by going to Angie's List and finding four companies that sold and installed home windows. Those companies were: Crown Builders, Mr. Rogers Windows, Champion Windows and New Image. A requirement was that the company sell Alside Excalibur windows because I had already replaced 26 of my homes' 42 windows and wanted to match them. Mr. Rogers and Champion did not carry Alside windows but the other two companies did. I had both companies come over and give me estimates. Crown Builder's was the company that had installed the first 26 replacement windows for me. Their estimate was $6,800. The New Image estimate for the exact same windows and features was $5,148. The difference in these two estimates was $1,752. I signed with New Image and saved myself $1,752. I think Crown Builders has to charge more because they have more overhead expenses in staff and their sales building located on Monroe Road. I was very pleased with New Image. They were always punctual and they cleaned up the work area spotlessly. The windows were installed over a period of two days at minimum discomfort to my family and pets.
